Minaa Mohsin is a visual artist from Lahore, Pakistan. She received her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Painting from the National College of Arts, Lahore and a Masters of Fine Arts in Painting & Drawing from Pratt Institute, New York in 2016. Her work has been exhibited in the United States and in Pakistan. She was awarded a residency at the Sam and Adele Golden Foundation for the Arts, New York.
Minaa describes her love for pop art and the aesthetic of the early 2000's as a major point of influence in her work and uses a combination of oil paints and acrylics. During her time in New Jersey, the subject of her work emerged as something she craved but could not obtain: Pakistani cuisine, particularly the foods that were inaccessible like Mithai. She also found herself exploring nostalgic themes and painting subjects that were reminiscent of her home in Lahore. The patterns found in the paintings produced at the time were coming out of the domestic realm of her own house, while also capturing the upholstery and patterns found in most homes in Pakistan.Â
Minaa currently divides her time between Lahore and Brooklyn and is the co-founder of Partner Painters, a studio and project space in Lahore, Pakistan.Â
